Our university in Modena is organizing a cycle of four public conferences titled (sorry, but it's only in italian) "Classica ma non troppo", about the actual use of classical physics both in science works and in everyday's life.
We'll try to follow them and make a report about it next weeks.

Free Libraries!
Copyright is currently a matter under strong debate, where copyright-owners' lobbies are opposed to the rising Free Culture Movement. I am a big fan of Lawrence Lessig myself.
This EUCD, seen by many as a big victory of the copyright lobbies, is the law that in the EU addresses these themes.
Well, we learned a few days ago that the EUCD forces the Italian government to pay the publishers for the copyright fees over public libraries' loans, and i must say we were indeed horrified, as we find this to be a terrible crime against our beloved freedom of thought and speech.
If someone from outside Italy is reading this (yeah, sure) I'm afraid he could find a little difficult to understand our deep indignation as in several english-speaking countries libraries already charge a fee to their customers.
In Italy on the opposite we strongly believe that libraries are a powerful instrument devoted to education to the spreading of culture. We are afraid that this is a menace to our beloved model of free library.

WWW
I was thinking about the internet...
I remember my first 56k modem, bought ten years ago and, above all, I remember the emotion of being on line for the first time...
At that time I was 12 years old and probably the first between my friends to have something like that.
Today it's all different,,, We see 5 years old children playing on the Teletubbies web page and everyone of us uses to talk with an im system or sending email...
But there is no awareness of the medium... We use it, we surf and look for info, but we don't know how it works or who made it possible... And we don't think about the real power the net has... The power of make us closer one to each other. We say we are the computer generation, but this is not true!
We are a generation of unconscious users...

Why should I do this???
I'm starting this new adventure on the web, or, more precisely, I'm trying to extend my blog, in order to reach more people around the world...
In about a year of blogging, I had a lot of visitors from foreign countries and I don't know what the hell they understood on my pages...
Now, the only thing I've to decide is: "Should this page be a simple traslation, a sort of copy-and-paste from my blog, or should it be something independent?"
The day I make a decision, I'll tell you immediately...
